Rohu, also known as Labeo rohita, is a major South Asian carp and one of the most economically important freshwater fish species in the region. Native to the rivers and lakes of northern India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan, it is also widely farmed across South Asia due to its high market demand and excellent growth rate.
Rohu has a streamlined body with reddish fins, a slightly arched back, and silvery scales that give it a distinctive appearance. It typically grows up to 1 meter in length and can weigh over 20 kg in natural waters. Known for its mild flavor and firm texture, Rohu is a preferred choice in both traditional and modern culinary preparations.
